Dr. Zahari Metchkov
Collaborative Pianist
Dr. Zahari Metchkov joins Tsvetana Bandalovska as collaborative pianist for January's RMMA Concert.  He is both a pianist and an organist performing at such venues as New York's Avery Fisher Hall and Washington's Kennedy Center.  He has concertized in Israel, Bulgaria and the US.  His first CD was released in 2008 - a recording of works for piano and orchestra by Franz Liszt and Cesar Franck and a second recording project featuring solo works for piano and organ was completed in the spring of 2014.  

Zahari places a high priority over the education of young pianists and is the President-Elect for the Colorado State Music Teachers association.  He is a frequent guest adjudicator and clinician to numerous piano festivals in Colorado. 

Metchkov is the Artistic Director of the Pueblo Keyboards Arts Festival and Piano Conversations Concert Series, Pueblo, as well as Rocky Mountain Music Alliance Concert Series.  He is the music director at Ascension Episcopal church, Pueblo, leading the choir and serving as organist. 

Dr. Metchkov is an associate Professor of Music at the Colorado State University, Pueblo, Colorado.

TSVETANA BANDALOVSKA (SOPRANO) was born in Syktyvkar, Komi, Russia. She studied at the Sofia Academy of Music, Bulgaria, graduating with a MM in Opera Singing in 1999. Her vocal instructors include Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Salvatore Fisichella, Alexandrina Miltcheva, and mastered her vocal skills with the distinguished Raina Kabaivanska, Gena Dimitrova and conductor Dr. Gustav Kuhn.   She is a principal artist at the Sofia National Opera.

She has won numerous international awards and prizes including the silver medal at the Boris Christoff competition in 2004, and was selected to represent Bulgaria in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2005 and Placido Domingo’s Operalia (Washington, DC, USA) in 2001. Also, she has participated in the Bartok&Puccini Festival in Hungary, Aspendos Festival in Turkey, and Classic Open Air Festival in Switzerland and performed Beethoven’s Ninth symphony in the Forbidden City of Beijing, China with the Orchestra of the Nations, conducted by Justus Franz. 

Her repertoire includes leading roles such as Elsa – Lohengrin, Isolde – Tristan und Isolde, Salome – Salome, Dido – Dido&Aeneas, Donna Anna& Donna Elvira – Don Giovanni, Pamina – Die Zauberflöte, Mimi – La Boheme, Marguerite – Faust, Michaela – Carmen, Cio-Cio-San – Madama Butterfly, Liu – Turandot, Desdemona – Otello, Leonora – Il Trovatore Amelia – Un Ballo in Maschera, and many others, as well as chamber and oratorical music.. 

Tsvetana Bandalovska has performed in France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, USA, Russia, Great Britain and Tunisia. In 2009 she became the first Bulgarian singer to perform the leading role in Richard Strauss’ Salome in Bulgaria. Two years later she received the Honorable Diploma of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture for contribution to the Bulgarian culture, and the “Crystal Lyre” Award for her participation as Sieglinde in the Sofia National Opera’s production of R. Wagner’s Die Walküre.

About RMMA

Rocky Mountain Music Alliance is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation whose mission is to provide for the enjoyment of classical music in the Pikes Peak region and to support the study of classical music. RMMA brings world-acclaimed musicians to the Tri-Lakes area several times each year to perform chamber music in intimate settings. In conjunction with many of these performances, the visiting musicians provide master classes free of charge to the rising stars of local students studying classical music.  The master classes are always open for the enjoyment and education of the public.  RMMA hopes to motivate all who are involved in these programs to make music and the arts a more significant and enriching part of their lives.
